Warehouse: Simple steps to environmentally friendly management

The news about the plastic sea and climate-related disasters reach people every day. In the meantime hardly anyone manages to turn a blind eye to the topic of environmental protection. Saving resources and living more sustainably is no longer a niche for hippies and people with conviction and is no longer a short-lived trend – it has simply become a necessity.

It’s not about completely changing your way of working from one day to the next, but the industry still has room for improvement in order to better protect the environment.

Zero waste – the thing with packaging

The issue of less packaging is becoming increasingly important for consumers.

But there is also a lot going on in the industrial sector. Organizations are getting more and more attention with innovative projects and a growing number of collaborations and partners. Today they not only develop new ideas on how to pack efficiently but also pack intelligently.

In addition to efficient material and the design of the packaging, the focus in packaging management should also be on waste disposal after use.

Energy – expensive and dirty

Energy can be saved in many places, but the simplest way is to use light and, in particular, to choose suitable light sources. The calculation here is very simple: the use of modern lighting technology can reduce consumption by up to 90 percent.

LED lamps still bring the greatest savings due to their comparatively low consumption, the longer service life of up to 50,000 hours, and significantly higher efficiency compared to conventional incandescent lamps. You are also doing something for your employees by investing in a natural, pleasant light. Thus, companies should get the best types of sanders and start installing energy-saving lamps.

The human factor

In addition to machines and systems, there is one main factor in sustainable warehouse management that determines the success or failure of the project: the willingness of everyone involved. As a company, you can do a lot to support them.

The two most important initiatives are probably the setting of specific goals, which are supported by the executive floor, and the training of employees. It makes sense to see the warehouse in the context of the entire company, i.e. not just the logistics, but to convert all areas and thus offer further training for all colleagues.
